Oral Histories

Blue Ridge Community College Oral History Collections is a growing collection of interviews with people about a wide variety of topics related to the history of the College and the surrounding areas. Some of the subjects discussed include education, personal histories, county history and development, segregation and integration, student experiences, and other topics. The Archive’s two main collections so far are the Hidden Histories Collection, which includes interviews with some of the co-hosts of the Hidden Histories Tour as well as interviews with some of the people involved in the logistics of setting up the tours. The other collection, which is ongoing, is the History of Blue Ridge Community College Collection. This collection includes interviews with faculty and staff (both former and current) and was designed to help preserve the College’s institutional memory.

The Archive is always open to new oral history projects. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to add interviews and/or collections of interviews to Blue Ridge Community College Oral History Collections. Individual oral history interviews typically include a recording, a transcript of the interview, and a photograph of the interviewee. Additional contextual information will be added as necessary.
