Volunteers and Interns

We welcome community member and student interest in the Archive. There are a few different ways to help out and gain archival experience.

  • Volunteer – Students and community members who are 18 years old or older can contact the Archivist to discuss volunteer opportunities. There is great flexibility in what times/days volunteers can come by the Archive and what projects they might be able to help with during their shift. Currently, we have the capacity for one volunteer each semester. Please contact the Archivist for more information.
  • Work Study – Students at Blue Ridge Community College can apply to be a work study in Blue Ridge Community College Library. Work studies will be taught a variety of skills related to library science. If you are interested in learning more about archives, the Library and Archive will work together to build in time during the week for you to help process collections, transcribe oral histories, and more.
  • Internships – The Archive is open to being a location for internships and practicum opportunities for graduate students pursuing degrees in Library Science, Public History, or other related disciplines. Graduate students interested in working with the Archive should speak with their program advisor about all internship or practicum requirements before contacting the Archivist. If students are interested in completing a project with the use of our digitization equipment or recording studio, please contact the Archivist for more information.
    • Practicum location for former students from:
      • University of North Carolina Greensboro
